My Gear

I have bought an unreasonable amount of software, art supplies and technology in the pursuit of making paintings, running a business and teaching robots to do my paperwork.

I pinky swear that all of these are fabulous things I actually use and absolutely love. For reals.

Some of these are affiliate links, which means if you buy through one, the company slides me a small commission, but fear not: it costs you nothing extra. In a few cases you get a discount I can't hand you any other way.

Consider this my Favorite Things list, Oprah style. I wish I could also point at you and say "You get a car!!!" but sigh, I am not making Oprah dollars yet.

My YouTube filming setup

One rule runs this whole desk: no more tripod stands. Ever. Like wire hangers. Anything standing on three legs around a desk turns into a nightmare, especially with frisky dogs who treat a light stand as a personal invitation. Everything here clamps.

Logitech MX Brio 4K webcam

I use this constantly

When I switched from working on my laptop to a big fancy business lady monster monitor, it did not have a camera in it, so I got this webcam. I love it.

Blue Yeti USB microphone

Old faithful

This is the microphone I used to make training videos back at my computer software job. It makes me feel fancy because it reminds me of a glamorous nightclub singer's microphone from the 1950s.

IXTECH Captain Pro boom arm

No more stands

An upgrade from the regular mic stand I used to have. It clamps to the desk, puts the Yeti where my mouth is instead of where my coffee is, and carries a headphone hook besides.

NEEWER Basics 10.8 inch desk clamp lights

The glasses-glare fix

Two of them, clamped to the desk, pointed at the pink hair. I wear glasses roughly the size of dinner plates, and without proper light my lenses turn into two little mirrors showing you my own monitor.

My computer setup

MSI 49-inch QD-OLED ultrawide monitor

Absolutely extra. Also glorious.

Nobody needs a 49-inch monitor to send an email, and our attorneys may now go home. But when I am editing video, working in Shopify, running two AI tools side by side and designing something in Canva, all at once, this thing swallows what used to be seventeen overlapping windows. This is not my start-here recommendation. This is my I-live-at-this-desk recommendation.

Mac Mini M4

The engine room

Everything runs through here. It handles the business, the AI, the design and the video without complaining. I got 24 GB of memory, but you only need 16 to run Cowork.

HP OmniBook 3, 16 inch

My Windows machine

I am primarily a Mac girl, but I got this for testing my bots on a Windows machine. It is a very reasonably priced option that has all of the guts required to run Cowork, if you prefer Windows.

Logitech MX Master 3S mouse

I love this stupid mouse

Comfortable, programmable, quiet, and the scroll wheel is a small daily pleasure. I have logged enough hours at a computer to stop believing that a bad mouse builds character.

Apple Magic Keyboard with numeric keypad

Boring in the best way

It's my keyboard. It works. It has the number pad because a fancy business lady occasionally has figures to enter and refuses to peck at the top row like we are rationing.

Recording and editing

Descript

My editor

I used to edit with my nose two inches from the timeline, hunting for the exact frame where I said "ummmm" for the fortieth time. Descript hands you the transcript instead. Delete the word, the word leaves the video, filler words included.

Then it got completely out of hand, in the best way. Descript connects straight to Claude Cowork, so my Hot Intern Bot™ does the editing. I tell him to cut the dead air, drop a title card on the intro and pull three clips for Instagram, and he goes off and does it in Descript while I go paint.

Through my link you get 50% off your first two months of the Creator plan.

How I film art and products

CANVAS Lamp with the weighted base

Love it. Not an affiliate link.

I tried three other cheap holders for filming while I paint. They either fell over, because I am a diva and I need a huge phone, or they would not stay put and the arm drooped mid-shot. I finally spent the money on this one a few years ago and it makes me so happy. I tell all my friends about it.

Takerers 24 x 24 inch photo light box

For product and painting photos

My house is a hot mess. This gives me a little space I can set up anywhere and just focus on the painting or the product I want to photograph. Plus it makes everything look fancy and more professional.

Claude Cowork

Current obsession

Cowork changed how I think about AI, because it stopped answering questions and started doing the work. Real files, real business processes, multi-step jobs on my actual computer. It is where my whole Hot Intern Bot family lives.

ChatGPT

Still on the payroll

I used ChatGPT almost exclusively for three years and it is still in heavy rotation for research, planning, writing and thinking out loud. I use both, for different jobs.

Wispr Flow

You're too fab to type

This thing is the shiz. I never type anymore, which has made working feel less like work and keeps me from spending my whole life sitting at my desk. You talk into your computer and it smartly formats the commas, the caps and the bullets. Less back pain, less cussing, so much faster.

Graphics, thumbnails, workbooks, presentations, marketing pieces. Adobe could technically do most of it, and I could technically churn my own butter. Canva is fast.

Enormous power, and I am learning it in public

I pay for all the apps and know enough to be dangerous in Photoshop, Illustrator, Express and Acrobat. If you also pay Adobe every month while suspecting there are nine hundred buttons you have never touched, welcome. We have jackets.

Shopify

Where my business lives

Champagne Fabulous® runs on Shopify. Website, store, products, blog, all of it. I would rather have commerce at the center of my site than bolt a store onto something that would prefer to be a brochure. It also has a ton of awesome print-on-demand integrations that I love to use for making products with my artwork.

Where I buy domains

I have a domain-buying problem. We are not unpacking that here. When I decide I need another one for a project I am absolutely definitely launching someday, this is where I go.
