Gloria is the woman at the end of the bar in 1967 who already knows the words to every Rolling Stones song, has opinions about Vietnam she's not afraid to share, and just bought her own round.

She clocked out after working for the man all day and is ready to burn her bra, talk about peace, civil rights, and whether Mick Jagger is overrated (he's not, but she likes the argument). Hot pink background because Gloria was never a wallflower. Gold hoops because she accessorized like it was a political act. Dark curls with purple and blue tones because even her hair had range. And the crazy eye makeup? Because we don't do subtle.

This is an original oil study on Arches paper. My very first oil portrait, actually. I was preparing for a workshop I took in London from Samira Addo and put a 1960s woman with big opinions on watercolor paper, because apparently I don't do anything the normal way. Gloria is bold, she's loud, and she lived in a decade that was trying to change the world. She never fit in. She didn't want to.
